Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty or Labial Reduction

Labia reduction surgery or Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that reduces or reshapes unsightly, one or both, labia- the skin folds on either side of the women’s vulva. In many cases this surgery is performed to reduce protruding labia minora. Women who's labia cause pain or women who are self-conscious of the excess labia are good candidates for this type of surgery.

This procedure can be done for both aesthetic and functional reasons. Excessive or uneven labia minora can be embarrassing for sexually active women. The condition may also cause physical discomfort such as chafing or pinching during sex or when wearing tight-fitting clothes. This procedure can boost a woman's confidence and make everyday life more comfortable.

Labiaplasty consists of trimming away excessive tissue while taking care to maintain a natural look. Labial reduction surgery can be done under local anaesthesia and sedation but preferably under a general anaesthesia as a day case. The procedure usually takes an hour to do. Incisions heal quickly; women can expect to return to their day-to-day activities within two weeks after having labia reduction surgery but intercourse may have to be delayed for few weeks.

Like all surgeries, labial reduction comes with some risks, such as infection or scarring. In some cases women may need to undergo repeat surgeries or revision to this procedure. Most women have no major complications as a result of this procedure. Many who have undergone Labiaplasty report being very satisfied with the results.

Your VIP Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon will explain the procedure and risks after assessment. Women seeking labial reduction surgery should discuss their questions and expectations with their surgeon.
